Hi all.
I am considering purchasing an Antares 780 with a Suzuki 150 outboard. Any one out there have experience of these vessels ? It will be primarily used for fishing but with the occasional overnight stay.
All experiences and advice on known or potential issues appreciated !!

I dont know these boats well, and 150 hp may be a good match, but if it's a planing hull it seems on the small side to me, so i'd check out prices with the next block size up, you may find it's not much different and would be faster planing and more comfortable at higher cruising speeds. At least talk to a dealer about performance with that engine to be sure you'd be happy with it.

Hi Nick, thanks for the response. The 150 is the maximum rated Hp for this model. I have had a quick test on the water and I pushed along quite nicely.

Merry Fisher/Antares types don't need such big outboards as their V is less than many boats.

Don't know that Antares, but generally these boats have a good reputation as witnessed by the number out there. Beneteau/Jeanneau basically use the same hulls with different configurations.

Great boat, very stable and able to handle chop as well as any planing boat with an outboard does IMO. Set up is very flexible and well able to accommodate a few overnights in relative comfort (better for two but for one or two night if you have a couple of young kids). Fishing wise, some would prefer the Marlin version for that but if it is a combination of use then best with the larger wheelhouse/cabin for flexibility and you can fish a couple off the back and one up front if it's not too choppy. Re the 150hp, I've been on a few with that and no issue. I've the MF equivalent, 755, with a 175hp but 150 well able enough and as you say rated as that as a maximum until 2015 when that increased to 200hp. If you do plan on overnighting I'd suggest a carpet inside for a bit of comfort and warmth but each to their own. Happy hunting.

I have just ordered an Antares 7.80 with a Suzuki 200 as the dealer recommended that for the difference in price I was better off with the bigger engine.
