3 figure responses to YM themed posts but how many have actually done it?
C of C means certificate of competence. Awarded to those who have taken the exam at the three levels indicated.I think YM coastal course is Coastal Skipper. That or YM theory. Otherwise no idea what you refer to, there isn’t a YM coastal course on the RYA site.
Yeah, didn't notice..I wonder whether people noted that multiple choices are allowed if the 3/4 of the people (at current polling) with YM Offshore never did dayskipper (or "just go sailing" ;-)
No that’s the line above, CofCNot even this one?
RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Exam

Coastal and Day Skipper course completion certificates are, as the name implies, awarded to those who successfully complete all the modules required under practical instruction and are not examined.
The course is the Coastal Skipper practical course.Indeed, but the RYA Coastal Skipper course doesn’t have the YM moniker.
I got my Coastal Skipper C of C after a bit of effort. The examiner, Robin Sjoberg who was RYA Cruising Secretary at the time, suggested securing to piles in Cowes using fishermans bends rather than the round turn and two half hitches we'd used. Not having the faintest idea how to tie such a knot, as Skipper I naturally delegated the task to my crew who were also doing the test - it was the middle of the night so I then used my wee torch to check them when they were done.I have 2 documents that no-one has ever asked to see - my university degree and my YM Cof C. Both took a bit of effort, both indicate a level of competence but having got them they live in a drawer unseen.

?? To the best of my knowledge the YM qualification does not need renewing, HOWEVER, If commercially Endorsed you need to prove current First Aid, Medical and the paper box ticking bit, to renew commercial endorsement of said qualification. It is a little annoying that they need renewal every (5?)years
it seems if you dont renew after a period they expire/wont be renewed.
I appreciate a driving licence now has to be renewed every 10 yrs (or 3 if over 70) but if you dont renew for a while you dont have to take a new driving test.......or have I got it wrong?
Sorry billskip, you have lost me, what needs to be renewed every 5 years?
I thought I read somewhere that the course certificate is necessary to be renewal..I may have it wrong and am getting it confused with the icc certificate my apologies if in wrong...but I'm sure I read it somewhere.Sorry billskip, you have lost me, what needs to be renewed every 5 years?
