Can't imagine what Easter weekend is going to be like on the lake. Everyone I have spoken too is going to have a last blast around the lake, it will be bedlam. Wardens assume that they can hide at the back of islands and such armed with video and speed cameras and we wont know their there. No one has mobile phones or VHF you see. If there very quiet and keep there eyes closed they will become invisible /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Speeding on Windermere should become as socially unacceptable as speeding on roads is with sensible motorists."

Sure, but we don't have ridiculously low speed limits on the roads do we! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif And I'm sure sensible motorists would be a tad annoyed if cars were essentially banned...

But no explanation as to why.

Speeding on roads is dangerous (inappropriate speed is anyway, but thats another discussion), thats why it is socially unacceptable.

Speeding on Windermere is just banned cos those in power don't want it to happen anymore. Slightly different situation to say the least!

I'd say the ban was more socially unacceptable personally. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Agree with both sentiments entirely if fact that has been pretty much the case for the defence all along.
There has been an exodus off the Lake but how big is difficult to tell untill the start of the season. As I say it is going to be very interesting how, when and were it is going to be enforced and how many people if any will effectively ignore the limit. Easter weekend will be a spectacle to behold as boats will be flying up and down the lake at full throttle, (I do hope people are vigilant during this show so as not to cause or be involved in any accidents).
And the cause of all this is a few tree huggers that alledgedly walk the lakeside, (even though 90% of the lake fontage is private and unacssesible) and are deeply and phsycologically effected by the noise of engines and the wake caused by planing boats. No mention of the day trip boats and there huge wakes or the people making noise on said trip boat whilst listening to the deafening decibels of the live Jazz band playing well into the evening.
Rant over (for today)

The issue of peaceful enjoyment of the lake (one of the main planks of the LDNPA's argument for even being in existence) is certainly made a mockery of by the Evening lake cruises. True they do switch off the deafening disco at 10.00pm, but most of the visitors (and locals) enjoying an evening stroll by the lake, or an evening sail, have given up by that time.

As the steamer leaves Bowness Bay and enters open water the volume is ear-splitting. The Jazz cruises are fairly annoying (especially if you didn't like Acker Bilk to start with) but the wedding cruises and waterborne discos are something else.

What a great shame there are no other lakes in the LAKE DISTRICT, if there were they could allow speed on Windermere and not on other lakes... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
