We sometimes use the "occasional" anchorages listed at the "back of the book", eg Port Donain.

Here's one, only a handful of miles from our mooring that's not even in the appendix. Ideal in settled conditions, there is reasonable shelter, and a sandy bottom with good holding:

That looks grand.
I really must get up there and do some of these places. Last place I set foot on a boat in Scotland was Plockton 25 years ago!

Thanks Jim. Mmm, Plockton is a lovely spot. We'll probably call in there on on the return leg of the summer cruise.

We are so very fortunate having all this on our doorstep, as it were. The downside is the variable weather; after taking these pics yesterday, I was feeling the worse from having too much sun - and it was extremely hot. Yet within about three hours there was some very heavy rain.

Here's another view of the unlisted anchorage:

Aird's Bay?

Anchored there once many, many years ago. Went for a swim in fact!

Looks like it's on the Movern side. The 3rd picture looks like a view across to Kentallen. The spit makes me think it is up near Corran narrows to I'd guess it is up around there near Sallachan Point??

OK, strike two. I still think you're on the Movern side. I think the first picture is looking down towards Shuna and the narrows at Lismore. Across from there is Camas Chil Mhalieu (according to the OS). Seems to match a lot of the feature in the picture - wooded shore, scattering of houses, ... and it's only a handful of miles from West Dallens.

Hotter??

Spot on! You win the dram. Camus Chil Mhalieu.

Very nice spot, "remote" feel about it - the single track road had only a handful of cars on it - probably more bicycles.

The UKHO chart shows shows some very steep underwater contours, but it seemed smoother. We anchored in about 5m.
