The boat I just bought has an md11c engine fitted, near the engine shaft/rudder area, there is a pipe connected to a black container in the rear compartment, any one know what it is for?
Another what is this

the bottom photo is a greaser.
with those rusted hose clips what is the rest of the boat like :disgust:

Thanks, the pipe is connected to the black container, presume that is the reservoir and you tighten the top to force grease down, the rest of the boat is actually quite good, been working front to back getting it ready for the water.

Is the stern gland inside that box?
If so it may be the exhaust cooling water diverted to lubricate a cutless bearing?
In any case I think I'd want to open that up for a look. May have been OK when fitted but needs a bit of investigation.

I might be misreading this. Which pipe are you talking about? the thin one, is probably the greaser, or thick one with jubilee clips?

Whatever it is, I would want it out to investigate, looks a mess anyway.

Stern gland is on the boat see pic, that's the next area to be sorted, the support needs recreating.
Dan, the thin one is the stern light cable, it is the large black pipe and clips that goes to then black container.
Will try to get the unit out and see if I has any markings, I'm only used to outboards.

It's unusual to have such a big pipe leading from a greaser, usually they are about 6 - 8mm, that one looks like 12mm.
You have another grease cap on the stuffing box, so where does the pipe lead to? Maybe another gland at the rear where, I would expect a cutless bearing to be?
Anyway, it's interesting, lots of occupational therapy there. Good luck and keep us informed.
