I'm bored at work and pondering the next boat over a cup of tea....

If you were looking for a boat to meet the following criteria, does it exist?

1) Less than <31ft long. That's absolute max length permitted in the harbour, but average length of boats in situ is around the 26ft mark.
2) Able to dry out - so bilge or lifting keel. The deeper the draft, the shorter the sailing window per tide
3) Around £15k, As always less would be nice
4) Able to sail to Norway/Faroes/Azores in a modicum of comfort with two adults.

So far I can think of the Westerly Konsort, but what else would be worth a ponder on a slow Friday afternoon?

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a boatless man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of an Anderson 22.

I can't see any of the boats mentioned as being able to sail to the Azores in comfort, even my old Sadler 29, though that was a fin. The Westerly Konsort probably comes nearest, even if it isn't the 'best' boat in all respects.

Southerly 28
First 285 lifting keel version
Long shot but a bilge keel Westerly Tempest would be ideal if you find a desperate vendor or don't mind a lot of tlc
Leisure 29
Hunter Horizon 27
MGC27 with rare lifting keel (needs legs through) think there was one or two bilge keelers - great sailing boat

I think you could get a Westerly Merlin for that money now if you like the aft cabin layout better. Or a Moody 27/29?

I will follow the 'recommend the boat I used to have' option - Moody 28 twin keel, more modern than 27/29 very similar layout to Merlin.

The unenlightened can feel free to get knotted - clearly Scruff hasn't seen an Anderson up close, especially the hull shape - I expect too far ahead of him :)

Meanwhile for the OP I was going to suggest the Trapper 500/ 501 twin keeler, a good boat and rather a well kept secret.

The Westerly Centaur is a good boat too, versatile and goes well in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

They are one in the same. You have given advice to an apostate.
