Another \"What boat?\" thread

Not for me this time:-

The requirements are 22'-30', must take the ground, good accomidation. Should sail well enough but performance is not an issue. Less than £10k.

I said Samphire 23 with beaching legs but it there aren't many around and those that there are don't have beaching legs. Plus the chap in question is not sure he wants that sort of hassle.

Westerly Pagaent perhaps? Well apparently that it too ugly for our man. (I guess that rules out Westerly Centaurs and a Seamaster as well).

What ground does it need to take? Chichester mud? In which case you can get a short fin in most places...

Leisure 23SL or try a Hunter 232. Both will give him change out of 10k.
Jaguar 25 might also be another 8k option.

Hunter Delta 25 - lifting keel or twin keel.
Sails extremely well.
Very good stowage and would easily sleep 2 adults and 2 children.
Can be had for around the £10k with outboard.
Only down side was poor head room.

Other option might be a Super Seal 26 with lifting keel - maybe just outside your budget. Again - sails very well and full standing headroom

Second the Hunter Delta, weve had ours 5 years and it lives with several others on a drying mooring in the harbour, Keel mechanism is simple, and goes well with its 40% ballast ratio. Headroom fine for me at 5'8" as I'm 5'10". A great simple boat that we take home for the winter, usage mainly the two of us crusing with 2 small children to various beach locations, but I have enjoyed racing ocassionaly with 2 to 5 of us on board.

Centaur too ugly? Well I suppose I used to think ours looked a bit like a potato, but compared to what we have now it had loads of character and was such a good solid boat. Ours cost £3450 new in 1972 and if I had had a bit more cash to spare then, I would have bought a Nantucket Clipper which was about £4500. I think those only had fin keels though, so not suitable for your friend.
