Go one Lock further which is only a few hundred yards and you can overnight on the UTMYC most excellent moorings. Just go through Lock, turn immediately to Starboard and you will see them. Very easy, water, electric et al. Don't leave the grounds unless you have the code to get back in.

Moorings there that are not just for the Great House, also just above the lock there are free moorings on the left.

As you say, and The Great House moorings are normally full. Immediately next door to The Great House are Uri Gellers moorings for £10 a night and there always seems to be space there.. George Clooney hasn't started letting moorings yet.
The hotel has been open but the restaurant has been closed lately.
