Another tax on East Coast sailors

It will be interesting to see if that changes after independance. Somehow I doubt it - a major change in any organisation usually gives a chance to review things and get rid of money being wasted for reasons lost in the mists of time. Whole government departments could be culled.

There will be a bit of a conflict between the SNP's socialist tendencies to spend and subsidise on the one hand and their need to do things differently and more economically on the other.
 
Back to the OP for a minute: as a trailer sailor this would definitely make me think about travelling to SYH again if they were to charge for the A14. I'll have to go to the Firth of Clyde again. :D

This appears to be the only scheme where the Coalition is proposing a toll. I suspect this is because there is no real alternative to the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge so they can get the money in and charge what they like. The M6 toll is losing money hand over fist because most people especially trucks, prefer to use the M6 and put up with the inevitable daily congestion rather than pay the extortionate toll. Yes, we'll be fleeced when the toll comes.
