hypothetical question

if you were buying a brand new boat & assuming you were not taking out a mortgage on it - would you get it surveyed ??

Yes, I would want any warranty issues identified and dealt with ASAP.

There again I would never buy a new boat

We did buy a brand new boat and no we didn't get a survey. However on demonstration day we went through the boat with a very critical eye and picked up many cosmetic problems. Sealine fixed all the problems with no quibble but it shows the importance of a survey even though it was DIY. You really can't depend on the companies or agents PDI inspection.
Other small problems showed during the warrenty period and even though the boat was by that time in the Med Sealine again sactioned the fix on my word and using local expertice sometimes on a work for cash basis.

I would buy run for 10 months and then do the survey, unless as Gludy you have big issues from the beginning.

The reason is that there will be shakedown stuff that the surveyor might not see first off and it may also develop stress fractures during the 10 months.

That would be my view. even if surveyed at the start also have a survey at 10 months so you can still go back to dealer with list of issuses.

My opinion.
