You must be joking! The place is full of Australians and South Africans.

Isn't this just the principle of "polluter pays"? Having an insurance policy in place is evidence of ability to pay. Seems fair and sensible to me.

Hmm , I'd be a little disappointed if my insurance didn't already cover this (ok, it doesn't for Australian waters but I don't expect to get that far!) ...

hi you might not but lots do and the way its set up seems you have to have in place of what you all ready got its got to be queensland ins so that means you woud have to take out insureance here which would cost you a fair old wack. as you would have to get a survay to get it and that cost hundreds about 200 to 300 your money then you might get done for repairs be for they pass the thing and so it go s it just grows no what i mean .... dave

hi yes inprinceable peraps they think all the muck comes from us big boys we cant evern take a p ....s yet we have no pick up points yet to get rid of the left overs

Ah .... so you can't just have any old insurance ... you've got to have theirs .... hmm ... yer right!

If it means that boats are surveyed, up to scratch and insured it strikes me as a good idea. If you cant afford to keep the boat in good condition and insured against sensible risks, maybe you shouldnt have a boat.

And its not unique. Where my mooring is in the UK I have to have insurance that covers those risks. To my surprise I found that my standard policy did so.

What would put me off going to Oz isnt the insurance or even the PC renaming of places like Ayres rock - its the beer. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That is 3 continents including the Merkins, your world cruise in going to be rather cold and icy the way you are going /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your concept of everybody in yachts having insurance is a very narrow minded view. Sure the vast majority of boats that day sail or coastal hop do have an insurance, - but even marinas only insist on 3rd party cover.

The real problem comes for the people who really cruise. Insurance for them is so expensive that it becomes untenable.

On top of that , this regulation from Queensland is merely one of a series aimed at the sailing fraternity - for example, draconian measures about weed on a yacht (due to the nasty little sea creatures that might be living thre), whilst ignoring that of merchant vessels.

Why? I want to know that anyone who hits me is insured just like on the road. And someone whoi cant afford insurance is unlikely to be able to pay a reasonable claim, so what you are saying is that we should be happy to have people floating around who can bash into you and just sail away.
