Another scam !!

ExPatSheild are offering free software to connect for free with unlimited free bandwidth through a service where they sell nothing. If that doesn't scream scam to you then I don't know what would. They have effectively set up a very professional looking man in the middle solution which is now being trusted by people like yourself. I may be missing something, but I see no reason to trust that this site is trustworthy enough to give my bank details to, especially since there is apparently nothing in it for them except huge bandwidth bills and datacenter costs.

The revenue model seems to be advertising. Don't know if this means they modify content via the browser add-on which separately downloads the ad content or if they modify the browser content on a proxy. Either way the user is trusting not only the integrity of the ExPatShield people but also their skill and investment in security, in protecting both their software (I note they don't give the checksum of their software on the download site) and their proxies/gateways. And who are "they" anyway?

I opened that email this morning and forwarded it to PayPal's spoofing address (spoof@paypal.com) I suspected it was a scam due to the grammar and spelling but as has been said, anyone with a recent transaction could be bounced into responding. Also the receiving account is not my Paypal contact account.

The email account that it was received on has been spam free until recently, unlike my hotmail account. I also second the comments about internet cafes. I do not use them for anything that needs a log-in since my hotmail account was hacked after I used one in Vancouver. I have never used one to access a financial web site.

I had a similar thing a few days ago. A screen popped up, as I tried to get into Ebay, saying that my account was blocked "for security reasons". To unblock it I was asked to enter details, including credit card details. I couldn't get passed the popup to get into Ebay.
In the end I logged into Ebay, without any problem, using another computer to check whether I really had been blocked.

I did a full virus check and the problem went away.

My wife reckons I have been the victim of a massive scam. A few years ago I received an email from a Yacht broker telling me about this yacht that was absolutely perfect for my needs. I fell for it and went to view, got a survey (the surveyor was probably in cahoots with the scammers). I parted with £50000 of my ( she says "our") hard earned cash. Since then I have paid out an absolute fortune in marina fees, yard fees, repair bills maintenance costs, fuel for boat and car, no doubt all these operators were in on the scam. Had loads of fun on the way though!
