Another Raymarine scam on eBay now - if you\'re quick!

It's here, or it was when I posted this. A C120 display for about £450 - yeah, right!

Now you see it.....

....now you don't! It's been pulled by eBay already. For anyone interested in how these scams work, the seller was based in Essex UK, but the auction was priced in AU$, and the seller said in his description that he had two C120 displays available for sale for US$799, and said "Please contact me at: ptmaleste@aol.com if you are interested in purchasing this unit for 799 usd . I now use mobile internet and I can easily answer, in a couple of minutes only if you contact me at: ptmaleste@aol.com ".

Might be worth emailing him and seeing what he offers!

Re: Now you see it.....

I followed one of these up. The seller was based in Northampton and advertised payment by PayPal until offered when there appeared to be a temporary problem. He suggested Western Union (which Ebay warn against) and when I offered to pay cash as Northampton is not too far away replied that he was in Romania at the moment.
This particular offer was listed under glass, fineware and artisitic effects (or something of that nature).

I wonder how the identity of genuine sellers can be hijacked like that. Posting an item presumably needs the use of a password.

Listing category.....

That's a good point - scams are often listed under obscure categories to try to avoid detection. The C120 I saw was listed in Beauty & Health > Weight Management > Monitors, Calculators, Scales.

Ebay scammer back again?

He's back here and here and here, all in the dolls house section. If you view the genuine seller's other items they are all in pounds sterling and look OK.

Re: I\'m beginning to enjoy myself.

I'm enjoying it too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If he wants to go back to Western Union suggest you tell him that you buy quite a bit on ebay and that for higher value items you are used to using ESCROW. Is he happy to use ESCROW?? On your command I could email him advising that you are a regualr client and that I've received your money so he can ship said item and then I'll pay him. If the goods turn up then he can get paid (by you!). If not then we can keep him on the hook until the pip sqeaks!

What do you think?

He\'s gone quiet......

I told him I'd sold some stuff and had a good balance in my PayPal account, so said I'd like to pay by PayPal when his account was working again - no rush, but would he save a C120 for me for a week or so. No reply so far!

But your Ebay listing said the item was in this country. Why do I have to send money to Romania? Do I have to find a Western Union office near me? The nearest seems to be 200 miles away. This is difficult for me.

Steve Clayton seems to have an idea. I'd really like to annoy this pillock.

Edit -

Errr that sounds as though I want to annoy Steve, not so I meant the Romanian chappie.
