I was idly watching a large power boat on the Seine towing a skier. Following closely behind in order to enjoy jumping in the waves caused by the boat was a jetski weaving in sharp turns.

What happens? The skier falls and the jetski passes him by about a metre.....

The skier starts again... and so does the jetskier....

Solent PWC....

Saw some PWC's come round Gillkicker this afternoon and think it great sport to buzz inbetween and around a Sunsail fleet milling around the race buoy there in low winds.

Two of them were so pre-occupied they didn't spot the police launch just behind them. Last seen being pursued towards Spitbank Fort.

Good for plod - have you tried trailing long floating lines ? It can be quite effective when they target you.

<hr width=100% size=1>a pragmatist is an optimist with a boat in the UK - but serious about not being in the UK !

Peeps, can I make a plea to give it a rest. This whole blame culture thing is becoming mighty tedious.

I've no idea how I can spend so many hours out on the water with hardly ever seeing any problems, but they really are few and far between.

Granted, there are some idiots out there, and I can name a few occassions too, but reading this site, you'd think that everywhere you go, there are people out there causing problems every minute of everyday, (and by all accounts the Solent is mayhem, when it is nothing of the sort).

Are people so deep in navel gazing that they want to give the authorities an excuse to create licensing, or it that the sub text to all the whining we are subjected to everytime we log on????

Jetskiing today at Herne Bay, there must have been 40 or so ski's in a very small area. It was very busy but there were no problems.
Early evening I was having a cuppa with a friend and saw an ambulance turn up by the launch area. It turned out that the last 2 skis in the water had somehow managed to collide and 2 riders were slightly injured. Unbelievable!

There are good and bad

Unfortunately a PWC .....( why do we have to use Yanky terms .... soon we will be talking PFD -Personal Flotation Device - instead of lifejacket / buoyancy aid etc.) ...... can inflict severe damage very quicklyu and in the most crowded places.

I having been victim of such - read a post some months ago of a Jet-Ski sideswiping my boat and swamping cockpit / cabin with water etc.

Most water-borne users slow down / act a bit more sensibly in crowded / close 1/4's situations like river entrances . channels etc. ........ but it seems a few Jet-Skis consider it game for a laugh to play chicken in these places.

We've all seen the 'dodge-the-moorings and boats game at full throttle' ..... I was raising a mast one time when this happened - nearly lost mast and near fell o/bd ...... my location was right at top of Langstone Hbr ..... in very quiet area where they are rarely seen ....... it was a group of about 4 - who sped up and back again .....

I know and appreciate that MANY riders of Jet-Ski's are sensible and do the right thing. Pity that the rest don't follow suit.

Everyone has a right to enjoy the water ......

Interesting incident at Hamble Spit on Saturday. A "girlfriend" fell off the back of a jetski. Apparantly she fell off in the channel, in front of a large ship that was inbound. The exscort boat stopped the ship, while there was a search, until she was recovered by another vessel.

PWC are HIGHLY manoeuvrable, the guy riding it was probably in full control and however close he got to the person in the water was probably intentional.
