Another Perkins 4108 Cooling Question?

Much as I don't like it, and can't aford a conversion, my 4108 has DIRECT raw water cooling:-( Is there any way of hooking this up to a calorifier tank to get hot water? If so, would this also help in ANY way to bring UP the operating temp of the engine? It never really gets that hot, and I don't like that.

I have the SH parts you need in my shed to convert it to indirect cooling, heat exchanger/manifold combined with crossover pipework.

Many raw water cooled engines are hooked up to calorifiers, it is relatively easy to do. There is a page about it on my website under 'engines'.

My BMC 2.2 diesel ran very cool. I found that it did not have a thermostat, and indeed it was not possible to fit one because of botched work done by a previous owner. A rough guide for such engines is that you should be able to hold your hand on the cylinder head for a few seconds when up to operating temperature. Much hotter than that you will suffer salt deposition inside.

Hi @vyv_ cox, i am new here & am fitting a 410 8 today & tomorrow. I also would need to connect a calorifier. I see you mentioned that ther is some info on your website. Pleaee can you tell me which site this is so i may take a look befor i go out buying parts tomorrow.
