Fortunately its a bit that VP still keep on stock.
Unfortunately boat has those deep sea seals fitted which means boat has got to come out of the water.
Third bit not in picture which also sheared , basically the top third of shaft.
Skipper adamant that he did not strike anything prior to failure.
Perfectly OK on journey until coming to a halt and then no drive.

You dont seem to be having much better luck with shafts over sterndrives fella. I dont think there is any panacea to the propulsion woes.

That’s what happens if you buy a gearbox that is the guts of an outdrive and predict all gloom about any one crazy enough to buy outdrives perhaps?

This particular gearbox is not in my boat.
As regards comparing shafts and outdrives, this is an original MS4B gearbox installed in a 30 year old boat which has around 2000 hours on the clock.
Outdrive owners would die for that sort of longevity.Over that time scale with outdrives thats 15 times out of the water and 15 sets of rubberware not to count replacement rams/ hoses and gear shift/shaft seals and thats just regular servicing, no mention of oil in gearbox disasters or changing leaky top hats or cables.:)

I wouldn't have died for 2000 hours of trouble free outdrive life.

2 hours would have been good enough!
