Hi again,

Further investigating our bits, its clear that our exhaust manifold was fitted without any gasket between the manifold and the engine, and no gasket between the manifold and the flange of the exhaust elbow. The schematics show that there should be gaskets on both those joints, and the guy at Keyparts agrees. I would appreciate opinions on the following ...

Firstly can anyone think of any valid reason not to use gaskets there? Secondly, would you recommend any sort of compound on the joints, Hylormar or similar?

Thanks in advance,

Tony S

Gaskets I'd say almost without hesitation. Esp if all sources show gaskets. No jointing compound unless the W/S manual says otherwise. (I tend to use a smear of grease, probably often where I shouldn't)

Clean the mating faces thoroughly. If they are damaged then you might need a jointing compound! but then I'd go for something more likely to fill gaps than Hylomar.
