Another Honda 5hp problem.

I have an oil leak !!!!

When the engine has not been run for a few days, I start in and I get an oil slick around the transom.

I guess the oil in collecting in the leg and when I start it the gasses push it out...

So where would the oil be coming from and how do I fit it.

The engine is now at home and I am going to start taking it apart.

The sump oil is milky and smells of petrol. The level was low.

The engine leg is normally left immersed in a well.

The gear oil is fine.

It is the head gasket ??

The engine still runs fine.!!!

Sounds like a crankcase seal to me.....

Actually milky sump oil is a sign of water ingress....petrol might drip in due to a leaky fuel tap/downdraught carb combination but I don't know much about your particular engine. Do Honda have a service FAQ?

Could be headgasket. Could be Fuel pump seal or membrane allowing fuel into sump.

My guess is still the head gasket. Oil leaking into the cooling water and going out the exhaust. Also water getting into the oil making it milky.

Don't know about the petrol smell...

The engine had not been used for a couple of years.

It is a 1997 model and used as the primary engine. Is it time for a new one ???

I think Tohatsu 5hp saildive would be my first choice. !!!!!!
