Another heads problem.

The photo below shows our aft heads a little while after it has been completely pumped out. It takes a while, say an hour, but water comes into the bowl up to this level and then stops. Not sure if it is the outside water level. I think it is a fair bit above that.

The Jabsco manuals say:

Bowl fills when toilet not in use - Shut Seacocks.
- Fit Vented Loops.

We have vented loops. The seacocks cannot be shut as we are using the heads.

Waste water re-appears in bowl - Check Bottom Valve Gasket
(16) and Joker Valve (33).

Are these the likely culprits? Could it be that one of them is sticking open slightly?

Many thanks.

Edit: I have no idea why the picture has rotated.

Joker valve is the favourite. It is probably stuck with calcium deposits and weeping. The water is the water left in the pipe after you ahve pumped out. Close the seacocks, pump the water out of the bowl and take the back housing off to get at the joker - can be a bit messy and worth replacing having gone to all that trouble.

Do you have the new style Jabsco Twist-lock pump?

We had exctly the problem you show on our previous boat and were about to dismantle the pump to service it - never a nice prospect. Our local chandlery pointed out the a complete new pump with twist-lock is not vastly more expensive than the service kit for the old pump and the twist-lock does help to reduce the back flow into the bowl. We bought the replacement pump and all our problems went away. Fitting was a far more pleasant task of removing four screws and two jubilee clips rather than that terrible prospect of poking around in the inards of the pump!

You might not need to fit new parts. I have exactly the same unit as you and dismantled it for an annual service. Only slight build up on both lower valves. I just cleaned off loose calcified material and left them them soaking for a while in Tesco's (or Asda's) finest super cheapo vinegar.

Everything seemed to be in excellent condition so just rebuilt it.

Valves on previous boat seemed to last forever. I did regular maint. but only remember replacing 1 joker valve and 2 other bottom valves in 20+ years. So pretty good chance that a clean up will do.

It's a pretty quick and easy job so not a problem if it did give up andneed to be replaced.

Maby, Mistroma thanks.

The pump is a new Jabsco Twist and lock and is only 18 months old! I guess that is slight build up in the valve must be the issue.
