Project boats ..... guy I knew renovated a boat that was part of the Dunkerque flotilla ..... lovely boat similar to OP's picture. It even had a plaque commemorating its contribution to saving the troops.
He spent lot of effort cleaning her up ... then added an West Systems epoxy sheath layer to the hull .... not exactly what I would have done - given her timber construction - but he did it carefully and well.
sadly before she could be launched - vandals got into the yard and set a few boats on fire - word was they were targeting someone who didn't agree with their behaviour ..... the project boat suffered terribly being next to one of the burning boats.
The epoxy layer could be peeled of by hand in sheets leaving blackened timbers ... and one side was just so damaged we all expected guy to give up.
But no - he knuckled down and got her back up again ...
Project boats .... guy here in Latvia sailed a 'project' boat here from Sweden ... Nauticat 33. Year later is selling - having done little except clean up exterior. I will be taking a look at her later to see how bad she is ... may even decide to take her on ...
Project boats - as many advise - are not something to take on lightly ... too often you see people give up and sell them on - having lost out on the dream they had of getting them all up and working again.
I always reckon it takes a special kind of insanity to take on any project boat, the disease is far more serious if it's a wooden one. However, I do hope someone with the right kind of insanity, bloody-minded stubbornness and money comes along, it just won't be me
Lovely boat. All original and conserved. Never had an engine. Wood looks sound too, as far as can be seen from a photo.
I have the same hope as Stemar, just to avoid the bonfire that would be a crime
