Another East coast Landmark lost

The helter skelter on Clacton pier has collapsed in the storm. Is nothing sacred?

As was....

I hope they are able to put it back up - Clacton needs all the help it can get. I am very fond of Clacton Pier and its attractions.

I got the impression from a television report just now that it had not been there for very long - two or three years? Possibly not long enough to qualify as a landmark? The local councillor seemed to indicate that they had recovered it in reasonable condition and intended to reassemble it.

I think it was there before the war

That is interesting - I did not know that they took them down and moved them around. I remember being put on the helter skelter when I was very little in the 40's, and at that time the whole pier seemed very tired - It was just after the war, so I presumed it had been there before the war, but perhaps not

Well, you certainly see them at fairgrounds - and they are mobile things. That is not to say that there wasn't one there before the way - just not this one!
