Another cutless question

Lubricant

I used a graphite grease - but the best trick is heat and cold.

Put the cutless bearing in the frezer for 30 minutes and gently warm up the housing - not too much

Then you can push it - but be quick !

Why use a press fit when you can slide a bearing in by hand, just bed it on epoxy, removal just involves heating the P bracket.

It doesn't need to be a press fit and there are good reasons why a clearance fit is better.

Mainly 'cos I've bought this one and want to know how to ease it in the p/bracket as per question - thanks for asking

Is the new one the same as the old?
If so, how did you get the old one out?
The same method should be used to put the new one in.

If the new one is different and you are having trouble getting it in, you might have bought the wrong part

Lady, yes it's the same - old one came out using thread bar and socket and washers device that friend had made up - it's back in his workshop now and he won't be back 'til Tuesday.

I was hoping to get it done over the break along with associated jobs - replace shaft, rudder and prop.

Will try some heat on p/bracket and some vaseline on c/bearing

You don't need anything quite as "elaborate" to fit the new one as you did to extract the old one. Bolt ( or rather set screw ) , nut and a couple of large washers should do the trick. No?

10 mm threaded bar and associated nuts and assorted washers from the fixings and fasteners aisle of b and q, should have you sorted with your own 'puller'.

After your advice I did that 2 years ago as I couldn't get one off the shelf to replace my complete rubber one from Jeanneau. Drilled and tapped the P bracket to take another couple of cone point grub screws which helped with lining up.
