Another Chinese copy for sale...

Would not touch it with a barge pole, had many owners of chinese motorbikes asking me to repair them. I thought 2 strokes were banned in this country.

Not actually banned. "Outlawed" for recreational use as a result of not complying with emission requirements.

There are in fact ( large) 2 strokes which do comply and are legal for the recreational market. They are not carburettor engines running on a 25:1 fuel mix though.

2T. Outboards are not banned nor outlawed even for recreational use . it is however illegal to sell/buy a new 2T O/B for recreational use .

It is not even illegal to buy/sell a new 2T outboard for recreational use if it complies with the emission regulations.

Mercury / Mariner Optimax engines and Evinrude E-TEC engines are 2T and legal.

To buy, or just to sell?

For what it's worth, if and when I need to replace my little Suzuki, I think I will be visiting Mr Mainbrayce on Alderney with his full range of Tohatsu 2-strokes.

So why are all there 4 strokes being sold, heavy, complicated, expensive servicing

The legal 2-strokes are all big engines for full-size RIBs etc. They probably have a better power to weight ratio, but otherwise I'm not sure there's much to compare in most of those categories.

In yacht tender sizes, it's four-stroke or nothing (or China or Alderney :) )

I've been buying old 2 strokes from the likes of gumtree, repairing them and selling them on. Am I breaking the rules?

Cos people think 2 strokes are banned.

Not even so sure that Evinrude now offer any four strokes except for 15 hp and smaller. I think all the larger ones are E-TECs

Er-hem. Not banned from use, just from import or new sale. That's why I can't buy a 100:1 Yamaha but can continue to run my 10:1 Seagull.

Yes banned for sale new for recreational use. From Jan 2007 IIRC. Unless imported into the Eu prior to that date
