Another cheap Westerly Centaur??

All this talk about money what about the sheer joy, frustration, cold, damp and bacon sizzling for breakfast on a quite mooring, that you get whether its a 1K boat or 15K. Its sailing, and one has to do what one has to do to keep doing it.

I have rebuilt my VP in my Centaur rather than buying a new engine along with all the additional hardware and grief and alterations that goes with it. Yes the cost was horrible, relatively, a surprise £1k in a year when I was looking to spend the money on something else, but still better than 7K for a new engine and installation, which SWMBO would not let me spend anyway.

If I was in the market for a less than 10K boat (and knew what I now know about engines) then I would definitely look at the one on offer and take a gamble (was going to say a punt but that would get Dylan started) that it is fixable and spend teh balance on rigging, sails etc etc which is more likely to need.

Now I have nearly convinced myself to be a 2 Centaur man hmmmmmmm.

My point exactly!!
Anyway, its been sold now, so couldn't have been that bad for the money!!
Good luck to all those sailing and motorboating peeps out in Forum land that are either restoring, updating or rebuilding a boat. A great sense of satisfaction once its done, huge pride in what you achieve and best of all you can say "I did that all on my own" Nothing better than reaping the rewards of finishing your project, be it a boat, car, DIY,etc and using whatever it is for the first time- puts a beam on your face from ear to ear!!

It means some semi-paid or even worse unpaid ' approved RYA ' type has come along and checked the buoyancy bags / tanks on a racing dinghy.

Of course anyone with a sense of self preservation - or racing drive to find speediest capsize drill & weaknesses - will have done this for themselves in capsize test / practices.

In 40 odd years sailing inc some trendy dinghies at trendy clubs ( other peoples' on both counts ! ) I've never seen this inspection actually happen, but I bet it might now if one gets seriously into racing as yet another RYA finger in pie...
