Another boring Sunday

Went racing this morning - best sustained gust registered 42kts with never less than 25kts. Wonderful time, no spinnaker, no tactics - just sailed round with a couple of reefs in the main and the No2 genny wound in for the beats and let out for the reaches. The afternoon race was cancelled so we just went for a wee sail instead - 3 reefs, storm jib, sprayhood up and a bottle of malt.

Why am I telling you? ... 'cos most of you were stuck ashore!

Race cancelled this morning with steady 30kts, gusts to 40 and a forecast for the Irish Sea of 8 -9.
So two reefs, half the genny rolled out and we went for a wee spin out beyond the shelter to Howth Head towards the Kish lighthouse. Great experience for the less experienced on board who had never been out in big seas and big wind.
Forecast turned out to be a bit over dramatic and in reality we were rarely hit by more than 30 knots.
All seems very casual from the fireside now but it is a great reminder of why the boat must be well maintained and just how powerful mother nature is.
Bit lonely out there with just a ferry leaving for Holyhead and Ryanair flights zipping over our heads but 10degrees and no rain so can't really complain as it is December.

blue skies convivial company, Duval after re-gaining the berth ( kin Blue Saxon double berthing).
supper for one ( Ruby ) o/b followed by one or two Broadsides in the Club home this morning, all in all a fine w/e /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
