(Another) boat dropped while unloading from a ship

Amazing incompetence by both slingers and crane driver.

It was clearly unstable, but no attempt made by crane driver to get on with lowering it quickly to reduce impact or drop height.

Looks like it was too windy for the lift maybe?

Crane Accidents

We were in St Tropez to have an engine changed & the idiot engineer booked this crane to lift out our Moody 40, understandably I refused & told him where to stick his crane. We eventually got the job done in Toulon, but that's another story.

well done you, that certainly doesn't look upto the job!

indeed reminds me of this caulker...

or this...

I know we have done these to death but in case you have a spare 30 seconds and want to see another here is another video of a boat being dropped from a crane while unloading from a ship. It is on Bloomberg this morning, so I guess it is recent. In Russia. It's a Carver I think, and nobody hurt, so not as tragic as it could have been :D
This may have been in Russia, but I know of an incident not that many weeks ago of a mishap at Felixstowe . The boat did not turn turtle but did a lot of damage to the bow and rails.

I can believe it. On my last one of these, taking Sq78 to med in early 2011, the ship load in Southampton was done by a team who really knew their stuff. They spent quite a while tweaking the slings so the keel was level as she lifted. The unload in Spain though was awful and the loadmaster was incompetent. It was only luck and my shouting that prevented damage to the boat :)

but no video....... :( there are just no words to describe my disappointment....
It was a friend of mine who was the delivery skipper. He said the whole thing was a total joke.

I have never had a problem with the guys at Southampton. In fact will taking a boat up there for loading tomorrow.
