I have a colour plotter but when the DSC radio was installed the installer connected to a backup 120XL which was fine, EXCEPT, the internal memory battery has now failed so switching off means it both loses position and NMEA output, needing 30 minutes to reconnect and a visit to the setup menu.

Since I am not technical I need - (1) Someone who can take apart and fit a replacement battery, (I hate to sling perfectly good equipment), or (2) a replacement I can just buy and plug in using same power and antenna cables so it just works out of the box.

Aktchull bowt in Spanes Costa a lot del sol, but I may b ome for a weak sune.

All advice welcome

Thanks

Could you not just connect the radio to the plotter instead?

Or why not have a go at dismantling the 120XL yourself? It's really not difficult, just four screws on the back, and if it's scrap anyway without a new battery then what have you got to lose?

Personally I use a BR355 to supply my radio and AIS display, a neat little plastic disk that spits out NMEA, but it does need you to arrange your own 5v power supply which may be more than someone who is "not technical" wants to get into.
