We're in Gib, but our friends have a steel De Groot that together we're going to take up to France (by road) and put into fresh water. He's got a complete set (20+) of unused salt-water anodes and is wondering how effective they would be in fresh. A complete set is quite expensive and if the salt jobbies would be (say) 70% effective then we'd probably fit them and haul out and check 'em in 6 or 9 months time.
Sorry, I know France isn't the Thames, but I thought some of you chaps might have some sensible opinions. Thanks in advance.

Fresh water isn't as active as salt water furthermore if in an area where there is lack of current i.e. a marina or canal this reduces the electrolysis even further.
Now! I am speaking from experience and not from technical know-how but I can tell you that on all my boats I used salt water anodes not fresh water ones. My boats spent roughly June-September on salt or semi-saline and the rest of the Thames. I never experienced a moment's trouble.
If others more technical than I have a different view than far be it for me to argue.
