Anodes wear

My brand new boat - Monterey 258ss - was delivered to Cala D’Or at Easter which is when it went into the water for the first time. Today it has been lifted to sort a small warranty issue with the trim tabs and the engineer has reported that the engine anodes are badly eroded - after just 8 weeks!

The boat does not have shore power and the batteries have been switched off at the isolater switch. Any ideas what the issue may be? I have asked the engineer to check the mercathode system and my first thought is that the wrong anodes have been fitted - in the USA these boats are often used on freshwater lakes - so I have asked the engineer to check them and retain them.

Any other thoughts on what the issue may be?

if there are boats near you that are permanently connected to shore power that doesn't help, also once I was moorered near a large steel liveaboard and my anodes fizzed away rapido.

Do you really mean engine anodes, or the outdrive anodes ?

The engineer said Engine anodes, I only got his message this evening so haven’t had the chance to follow up with him.

it could well be that you have fresh water anodes (magnesium), they will wear ultra quickly in salt water. i would have expected the local dealer to swap them for the proper anodes as part of the comissioning before the boat was put in the water , but then again nothing surprises me with the ineptitude of mallorcan boat dealers.

That was my first thought Julian so I have asked the engineer the question and to keep the anodes he removes
