Hi,
I am currently involved in a project looking at the varying anode decay rates in different areas. Anecdotal evidence suggests that sacrificial anodes need replacing more often in the River Hamble than elsewhere in the Solent. Some of the suggested reasons for this is salinity and stray currents.
A questionnaire has been designed to determine boat owner’s views and opinions on this issue. Any responses to this survey on anodes would be helpful to this project, especially if your boat is moored in the Solent area of the UK.
It is hoped this questionnaire will help determine trends and identify hotspots of anode decay within the Hamble and the wider Solent. Inputs from other regions will also show if similar issues occur elsewhere. The data collected will be invaluable in determining the scale of the issue and possible causes. Determining factors involved in variation of anode decay rates could potentially save boat owners money in the long run. It could lead to more suitable advice being provided to boat owners regarding anodes. The theories determined from this survey will then be tested through a number of experiments.
This project is being carried out jointly by Aldous Rees, a PhD student at Southampton Solent University, and the River Hamble Harbour Board.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this questionnaire – your input is vital to the success of this project. All the information provided will only be used for this project and will not be passed onto any other parties. The questionnaire is entirely anonymous. Please click on the link below for the survey:
