Hi everyone,

Completely new to boating (purchased vessel Apr 21 - Broom 30 1975) and loving every minute. We are due to lift her out of the water for anti-fouling in October and are also looking to replace the anodes. We are fresh water so from what I understand magnesium are required!? Could somebody please help by confirming how many anodes would I need to purchase and are they all the same size/style!? Thank you for your help and recommendations in advance :)

You won't know until you lift the boat, as there is no "standard" anode provision. Anodes are used to protect items where 2 dissimilar metals are in contact in seawater. The most common on a boat like yours are the shafts/propellers and rudders/rudder stocks. They may well have a single hull mounted anode wired internally to the gearbox(es) for the propellers and rudder stocks or they might be individual anodes such as shaft anodes clamped to the exposed parts of the shaft. You may also find anodes connected to seacocks, although strictly speaking these are not necessary.
