Need to order new anodes for Vetus bow and stern thrusters (80kgf). Also 2" shaft anode, trim tab anodes and bar anodes. Any special recommendations of suppliers - seems to be wide variation in prices.

Thanks.

Zincsmart Z15 bar anode 8kg £41.40 incl VAT

MG Duff ZD72BM bar anode 6.5kg £125.38 incl VAT (from Aqua-Marine)

Is there any reason not to do the obvious. A lump of zinc is a lump of zinc - no?

[/ QUOTE ] Not sure. I've heard it said that "all lumps of zinc are equal, but some are more equal than others" and there have been occasional stories of anodes that waste away suspiciously fast. Whether this is down to the amount of zinc in the anode (I assume, in reality that they're a zinc compound, rather than a pure element) I do not know, as my chemistry ended with a fail and a whimper at "O" Level.

Caution may be advised......

I think Zsmart also sell McDuff products. Anyway, we've put our anodes on and will see what happens.
In previous threads on this subject (there have been many) no one has said that the Zsmart ones gave an inferior performance. Provided that they are the correct pattern and size, therefore, I'd buy them and try them.

I agree with the recommendation of www.zincsmart.com

No a lump of cheap cast zinc is not a lump of Zinc but could have all sorts of scrap included in the Zinc melt.

Of course the quicker the Zinc erodes the better protection you have given your running gear , (as longer as it doesnt wear out before you change next)

I agree with the recommendation of zincsmart and I have found the company incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.
