Has anybody got any tips on how to free the two anode housings on the front of the engine a Yanmar 2QM20H one is square plug and the other is hexagon and both resist normal pressure with a spanner

I used to have a 3QM30 which I guess had the same arrangement. I seem to remember that the only way was to apply a bit of heat with a blowtorch, and then hit the spanner with a hammer to loosen the plugs. Sounds a bit drastic, but it's a big lump of cast-iron, so will take a fair amount of "punishment".

I have a 2QM20 that is fresh water cooled so do not have anodes in the engine . However, I have removed the rear cover at some time without any difficulty. Try posting on www.yanmarhelp.com and David Swain will advise you.
