Hi Slowly bringing the boat back to the UK after spending 13 years in the Med. looking at two marinas in Portugal and Spain.
1. Povoa de Varzim looks good as close to Porto airport and very good price. I remember stopping here on the way down and there is now a newer marina
2. Marina Davila sport. Looks better protected but no easy travel links and slightly more expensive.

Any comments i intend to stay for a year to have a look around.
Thanks Maurice

I had a year contract at Leixoes marina, it's basic and it can get bouncy in there depending where exactly your boat is but it's cheap and cheerful, bus ride of 1/2 hour or so from Porto airport. It's not commercial, run by a group of sailing clubs.

Prices here, 12 metre boat 12 monts would be E1970, e.g.

There's another marina just inside the entrance to the Douro, I believe that's significantly more expensive and even bouncier. Surprisingly at low tide I could get under the Pont de Luis bridge and get as far up the Douro as the great big lock (26ft sailboat). If you're a mobo there's another place after the Pont de Luis bridge...

Thanks Graham looking on Navionics it is a bit shallow at 1.6m. My boat has a draft of 2.1 so not sure if it would fit?

We only draw 1.5 and don't remember having any worries about depth but it was quite a few years ago last time there. A bit further north is Viana do Castelo with a nice sheltered marina and attractive town but no idea if they have space for more annual residents. Well worth a vistit when passing.
