Boat all prepared for lift in next week, been down today for some final checks and noticed a grey dust film all over boat. It would appear boat downwind has been worked on sanding down to gelcoat and I now have what they had below waatet all over my tip sides. It a professional contractor as well which makes it really annoying.

So if your boat is still ashore to the west end of the car park at Port Solent then you should expect similar

I'd invite the marina to get it cleaned, and chargeback the contractor. The hull should have been sheeted in plastic before sanding.

To OP, guessing you mean upwind! My boat was there until two wks ago (on west side of hard betwn toilet block behind boardwalk and barrier gates if that’s where you mean) and normal shielding/sucking practice appeared to be absent on some boats. Had to clean, retouch and polish because of same. Agree with pvb, and if no satisfaction it’s probably time to name and shame.

Or offer to invoice them your usual weekend rate of £2000 a day for the additional work incurred by you.

Mine was in pretty much in the same location, right next to the barrier gates until the end of February. Ended up completely covered in Dust and grime plus lumps of filler from a contractor working on a Moody DS45 which was having extensive GRP and Gelcoat repairs done. I mentioned it to the yard manager and was told "what do you expect, it's a working yard" . Jet washed most of it away, but some of it is persistent and refuses to budge.

I think I would remind the yard manager that just because it is a working yard doesn't mean they can have a cowboy attitude to health and safety. Anybody creating dust needs to consider how it is contained, collected and the implications on those down wind. It only takes a few minutes to wash down but it should really be contained at source.
