I keep my Halcyon 23 at Newhaven on the South coast - any reccomendations on antifoul. Also as ive just bought the yacht this year - do i need to use a primer/undercoat ?

Finally there is some rust showing on the bilge keels - any idea on how to treat that.

Depends on what's been used previously. I'd say check with the previous owner to see what antifouling was used before. That way you can check for any compatability issues with what you choose to use this season.
As regards rust on keels: I'd say remove it and coat with an anti-rust primer and/or keel paint.

welcome to the halcyon owners ranks - have you joined the OYCOA? you'll find lotys og useful infor from other members with Halcyons. I've got a 23 and although mine is a fin, the advice about removing rust on the keel is absolutely right. I removed it with a wire brush in a drill chuck and coated with red oxide primer. Some still comes back each season but minor touch ups are all that's needed.

As to antifoul, I posted an enquiry about paintig over the old antifoul and the cincensus was that as long as the old antifoul isn't peeling off or powdery, you can apply new stuff over the top.

I've tried several makes and none is any better than the others. However, I find that 2.5 litres isn't enough to do tow caots on my 23, so now I buy the ones that say 'half a litre free' becuase 3 litres is exactly right for doinf two coats with just a dab extra for doing the bits where the cradle sits when the boat is craned off the trailer.

Have a look at the OYCOA website - type OYCOA into Google (Offshore Yachts Class Owners Association)
