I would like to create and save an animation of a track uploaded from my GPS. I simply want to show an icon moving along the track, with the path travelled highlighted. I'd like to set the camera angle & height so that features on land are visible throughout, and also adjust the playback speed of the recording.

I've uploaded the .GPX file and tried to do this in Google Earth. Google's blurb is simplistic and is littered with pretty pictures approximating the result I'm aiming for. However, whilst I can playback the track I have not been able to edit how it looks and save an acceptable file that I can share.

Has anyone out there managed to do this using Google Earth. If so, can you offer any advice or point me to any reference material or worked examples? Otherwise, does anyone know of a better (cheap or free) software tool to achieve the same result?

sorry, thought I had answered this

you could check this:

http://gaialab.asu.edu/Metro/# - using google earth (+google streetview), this example animates a vechicle at different speeds, on different tracks, you can start/pause/resume

http://maps.myosotissp.com/-you can upload your own files from garmin devices, import from url, graphs, animation with start/pause/resume, zoomlevel, speed up/down animation
some software that you can use (it uses Google Earth to animate the track):
http://gpsanimator.com

hope it helps
