Hi all. I have just seen a poster for the RtIR in May. Have the silly notion to follow the fleet round if the weather is anywhere near decent.
Are any of the fourumites planning on taking part this year?

I sail single handedly, so not up to joining the race. I thought a lot could be learned by following the pack.

I am unable to find information on line, could somebody let me know where the start line is please?
Cheers all

Unless there are two races, I thought it was 3rd August this year, it kicks off the Menai Straits regatta. Round Isle of Man is in May.
It starts just before Menai Bridge going clockwise to make sure everyone can do the swellies and caernarfon bar with the tide.
Over that distance you will end up on your own anyway and its quite a long way, especially when you lose the tide and it goes dark.

Many thanks.
I never even thought of IOM, just saw round the island and assumed Anglesey.

Ok change of charts and start looking at IOM, still an area I would like to look at.

Cheers

RT IoM or Anglesey, they are both long passages for for a single hander to do in one go. Contrary tides won't half slow you down too & you cannot avoid them. No problem with a full crew, but solo you will struggle to get any rest so close to dangerous rocky shores.

Two local clubs are organising rti cruises at may bank holiday weekend. Nwvyc are going anti the RWYC are going clockwise.
We hope to join in the latter. Be glad to show you the way over the bar . Currently the marks are in the wrong place or missing.
Steve.
