I just went to print an envelope to send a letter when the printer decided to play up, after crashing the computer four times I threw it out of the bedroom window onto the patio.

The wife says I need an anger management course, I told her to shut up and mind her own business. (only joking, I daren't say that to her)

PS Anyone know where I can get a cheap printer?

Solution

PC World were recently selling a Lexmark inkjet for about 25-30 quid...that's actually cheaper than the cost of the replacement ink cartridge. Mad, it's actually cheaper to throw the printer out and buy another one rather than buy Lexmark's cartridges.

Probably much cheaper than an anger management course too.

So there you are -- ybw.com solves all your problems -- you can have a cheap printer and a sound economic reason for throwing it out of the window occasionally (nb only economic if you open window first).

Re: Solution

I had a colleague once who got so sick and tired of his phone ringing every time he settled down to work that he beat it to a pulp with a piece of steel tube (good job they don't work at high voltages!). It was the funniest thing I'd seen since the episode of Fawlty Towers where John Cleese beat up his Austin 1100 with a tree branch - and in a very similar vein!

He then carried the shattered remains -complete with circuit boards dangling forlornly by their last few wires and drop-kicked it into the skip in the middle of the workshop. Unfortunately for him, one of the directors saw the whole incident!

His punishment?

He was told (quite sternly) that he would not be provided with a replacement until he'd learned to control his anger!

(Guess how many phones there were in the skip next morning?)

Re: Solution

Whats worse is that Lexmarks new (laser) toner cartridges have a proprietary chip, with some custom code embedded. The third party cartridge manufacturers (cost of cartridge about 40% of Lexmark) reverse engineered the chip - at which Lexmark promptlya slapped a copyright injunction on them, preventing sales. Case is, I believe, currently on the court pendinglist.

I think the modem business model of giving away printers for less than cost, and recouping capital on inflated consummables is plain crooked. Just like the GSM market, Copiers and lots of others. Now, if Ferrari would adopt the same model I might be converted!

Re: Solution

How very unreasonable. Over the years I have had several calls from embarassed directors who have let fly at their keyboard and smashed it to bits, which having done one or two myself, I can tell you is very gratifying. I tellem thaat we'll replace the first free of charge, afterthat it's chargeable BUT much cheaper than anger management coure, and anyway, I spose smashing something cheap is a form of anger management innit? Whereas whatpeople often mean when they say anger management is "anger suppression" which is not the same, and perhaps even unhealthy. I said this to an anger management consultant who up the blimmin wall at me...

Couldn't agree more!

Every company should have a punchbag with a picture of the MD on it!

was it the monitor, computer or the printer you chucked? The monitor is the most satisfying although probably the least culpable!
In the early days of mobile phones we had a foam phone give away and favourite trick was to walk through the account office talking on it then scream "Bog off" and chuck the foam phone at the nearest attractive lass's feet. Uually proved to be quite a conversation opener!

Anger Management is for people who have outbursts for no apparent reason. Or worse who have no outburst but do other terrible things BU..... BL......R.
Can t blame you for killing your printer. It is about time we stand up against the IT industry who dump their b........it on us. Just remember, an old 286 had the same processing power as all computers in the NASA control center combined in 1969. They flew To the Moon and back and today with 500 times the power you are not even able to get your type writer alias MS Word fired up with that, let alone to get something usefull out of a printer. I bought labels and installed a special driver and template for it. Guess what, out of 16 labels on an A4 page only one was usable afterwards. Don't those clowns test the stuff before they throw it at us ? What a joke, of course not. Guess why NASA only uses stuff which is at least three generations back. They do not trust the stuff either (so much for rocket science).
You are well advised to go back two version in software and one in hardware (that includes your printer). Then the software has all the error corrections, still is compatible with your PC and you get all the cheap consumables for your printer.

And now I rest my case. Have to go back to work. Guess where?? Yes an IT company ;-)). Need to program a few more errors before I knock off for the day.

Hi,

I thought I was calming down today until I heard that some complete s**t for brains had wrote a letter of complaint about me.

You see it wasn't even me but a colleague that had dealt with them.

Hey ho, thats life.
