I lent my son who has autism/learning disabilities my tablet. He's great and likes to use his initiative......Due to his frustration at its slow performance he decided to do a system update without consulting me. Brilliant :rolleyes: I have a new tablet with no apps etc etc. Nothing was backed up to my knowledge. Since I primarily use it for navigation I imagine I have lost my Navionics (not a subscriber after the first year) and all the charts I downloaded. Beep! Looking at Google Play it seems to list previous purchases but most were free apps and everything just gives the option to install not reinstall. Any pointers?!

Is it an Android? If so, with a bit of luck, you'll have back up turned on. If so, when it asks you if you want to restore a previous system or set up a new one (can't remember the exact wording), tell it you want to restore from Google and tell it your email address & password and, again, with a bit of luck, it'll rebuild itself. With even more luck, your data was stored on the cloud and that'll come back too.

If backup isn't turned on, it's time to put on the black armband in mourning for a lost machine and start again. If it's Apple, you're on your own, I know nothing.

On the most of the phones and tablets I've had dealings with, you have to go through the apps one by one and tell them to move their data to the card. Some do well, moving almost all, others move almost nothing. My Moto G4 can use the SD card as an extension to the main memory, which simplifies life.

If its android then the apps (but not the data) will be in the Play store still, just download them again, it will say "Install" even for prior purchased apps but you do not pay for them again unless the new release was sent in as a separate app.

Thanks for that. I think the issue for Navionics is it is the charts that you download that are useful for when on the boat and not having to worry about mobile signal/internet connection.
I don't think I've paid for any other apps but I will check.
