I have been a rave enthusiast about the Navionics apps on my Android phone

However having just done an end of contract update (to the latest HTC One S) I have lost access to my Navionics apps. Everything else simply reloaded from the backup (using MyBackupPro, which is great) or redo loading from Google store. But Navionics was the exception and was forcing me to re-buy

Contacting Navionics they suggested I buy the new versions (but new features lack satellite images of minimal value on small screen) or redownload using a link which was apparently an apk file.
The latter would be fine - except that clickng on the link failed to work (just took me to a screen with only PC or Mac downloads) and there were no instructions as to how it should work. Their guidance so far not helpful - basically click this link which doesn't work.

Anybody hit this problem and overcome it?

I raised this issue a couple of months ago - a quick search of the forums would help.

Outcome is, send them your invoice for the old version and they will send you the apk file to install it again.

Cheers

Eugene

Have changed my phone a couple of time since buying the app. First time could not load from google market, this time it loaded from google play with no problem.
If you have a rooted phone you can find the app and save the apk file which can then be used.

I had the same issue recently, no sign of the Navionics Europe West app from Google Play via the device but it was still listed on my Google account under My Orders. It was possible to push it to the device from the online account. The original purchase record in the account was deleted and a new one recorded for the latest download date, doesn't seem to have been double charged which is as it should be.

Android........ Buy an iPad or iPhone and navionics just works fine.

My friend has the Sony tablet S ( Android) and trying to get navionics to work properly has been a b*****d. I was looking at the Samsung 111 android but not now, think I will stick with apple. I also think navionics take th piss sometimes with their pricing?

Ignore rubbish posted by Iphone users.

If Navionics sent a pointer to an APK file then use the Browser on the Phone, not the PC.

Alternatively, on your PC, go to Google Play and click on "My Android Apps" (top right)

https://play.google.com/store

It will then show you your devices and paid for Apps.

You can now find the App and click on INSTALL and send it to the device you want.

Couldn't agree with you more. None of his rubbish on iPad. Having said that I expect the OP really doesn't want "should have bought an Apple product" comments so I won't make one.:D

I think Navionics are doing the right thing with their pricing. In the absence of a serious competitor they are charging a premium price and getting away with some unusual attitudes to upgrades.

Until someone properly competes with them it's a case of put up and shut up.

+1 , was offered an update on W. Europe, went to load it, had the whole thing crash, sent the invoices off, reloaded eventually.
Took far too long and should'nt have happened anyway.

Yes, I had the same problem two moths ago and after numerous e-mails back and forth to the Navionics team, I bought the new version (I cant tell the difference). They also gave me a link to retrieve my old version, however, it did not work.

Errm, actually it's exactly the same on iOS. The issue is that the earlier apps that people bought are no longer available in either Google's or Apple's App markets. Navionics have withdrawn them ad replaced with a later version which is a completely new app. As a result you can;t reload it because it's simply not there any more to reload. As posted by a helpful person earlier, if you contact Navionics they will ususally give you access to a free of the new app.

Thanks for all the helpful input. I had emailed Navionics and they claimed to have sent a link to an apk but I couldn't get the link to work (oh and I had tried to search the forum but had not found the previous stuff)
Don't have time to do try these things tonight but will have a go over the weekend and report back

PS I am happy to ignore the IPad solves everything brigade - as others have noted it has the same issue. And as I am typing his on my iPad and we jointly have all of iPad, Samsung 10.1, HTC One and PC I am better equipped than most to make direct comparisons :D

I upgraded to a Samsung Note, Navionics sorted itself out automatically via Google Play - no problem whatsoever, although I did expect some, having read some tales of woe.

Make sure you have the setting for "Allow installation of non-market applications" ticked. Usually in Security.

The issue was that, in essence, upgrades to something you have bought continue to be free. Of course, Navionics did not intend to give us lifelong updates - neither app nor charts - so called the new version something else and wanted us to pay for it. Again. Problem came when they deleted the old one from the store so nobody that previously paid for it, could reinstall it. Of course you could buy the new version.

Thanks Martin. Having tried all other options this was the route that sorted it quickly.
Had not thought that the Google Apps could be managed from my PC - but worked a treat. Selecting the App management I could see what it thought was installed on my old phone. Deinstalled remotely via PC, and it then appeared magically in the other available Apps. Select download, specify new phone and the download was happening on my phone when I picked it up.

(And so much better to my mind than trying to transfer Antares charts files to the iPad via iTunes this afternoon. Antares are fantastic, but iTunes is fine for music and rubbish for file transfer)
