Formidable effort by Alexia Barrier, in the oldest boat in the race, with a tiny budget that only came through at the end of the summer.

Alexia is another one to watch next time if she manages to find the backing to fund a competitive entry.

it was nice to see Catherine Chabaud on the dock to meet her. Catherine was the first woman to complete the Vendée Globe in 1996/7; she built Alexia’s boat for the 2000/01 edition.

That Alexia fell and injured her back a week ago, and completed the race despite intense pain proved what a tough cookie she is. Any of us who have suffered from back pain knows what agony it can be.

Bravo Alexia !!
