Useful thread to me too. Mine does down under power but, naturally, not up. Neither the deck switch nor the remote at the helm work so I assume a relay not working properly. Having (I hope) found a handle at the Solent Boat Jumble last weekend I can now let chain out to fiddle with making it come back again without having to use brute strength if fiddling fails.
Andrew, if it helps, as a temporary measure, you could swap the two heavy cables from the motor where they are bolted to the contactor. This would allow you to manually lower the anchor and retrieve it under power. Remember that the controls will work backwards, unless of course you swap the wires from the controls at the contactor too. Should be able to do both with most contactors.
