And as another pointless distraction, wot's in the barrel?

That's a bit of a disappointment isn't it. All day I've been thinking it could be rum or beer (but then it would have got too hot).

Drake’s Drum is a snare drum that Sir Francis Drake took with him when he circumnavigated the world.[1] Shortly before he died he ordered the drum to be taken to Buckland Abbey, where it still is today, and vowed that if England was ever in danger someone was to beat the drum and he would return to defend the country.[2] According to legend it can be heard to beat at times when England is at war or significant national events take place (Wiki)

I was going to say Grog then .......I thought maybe a life raft valise disguised to look like a barrel ??

Actually, I changed my mind. I thought it was a Drum to represent Drake's Drum but if I blow up the images of it both sides, it has a wooden top and bottom. I've emailed the chap!

I thiught it was a drum bearing in mind the boat's name and the position of the barrel,it looks as if it could be an annoying obstruction on deck,it can't be just to store warps etc, they are sacrificing deck space to have that thing there,so it must have a higher purpose than mere stowage.
Perhaps the end covers protect delicate drum skins?

Dunno! Perhaps one of those hoops at each end comes off. I've emailed the guy some images and have asked the question. Well there is nothing else to do, is there? Well I could go out and adjust my stern gland. Seems to have started dripping a bit yesterday. Or I could get out that Solar Panel I been threatening to fit. Or I just could take the top off a bottle of beer and sit in the garden. So many problems.......
