And another thing

I saw it ages ago a handy size but in the market place expensive , recent boats which arent far from her size and build £4.500 or less.
I must admit to liking your boat but the price .I have Dandrit now so I'l have to get on but it's difficult where I keep her cos of her size it means I cant come and go like I used to re tides and her draft. My next boat will be more like the size you have .
Good luck with her

Cheers
Mick

hi there,

You have a lovely boat - perhaps this link might be helpful in terms of improving your site (although its perfectly respectable already) - http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/

You might think about adding to the metadata in the header on the home page so that it will show up when people look for relevant keywords in search engines. Also, the pics seem to take a long time to load, even on a fast connection - so you could probably slim them down.

Good luck!

Cheers

How Much?

The first thing that strikes me is there is no price, so potential purchasers have no idea how much you value her. All the copy indicates that she is a splendid vessel and in truly amazing condition, all of which suggest a very high price. People do not react well to 'price on application' statements as it gives them no idea as to where to start or whether they can afford her.

Secondly, it's not enough to just have a website. A website is only any good if people know it is there (they have to be told). A website is fundamentally an opportunity to provide a lot of detail in a transparent and open manner, as an advertising medium it is overated and under delivers, so it needs to be supported by other forms of advertising.

Hope this helps

Re: web sites

I do quite well with my web site's the one I use for my business is the only form of advertising I have , mind you it does get very high on search engines list's so that helps. It is the cheapest and best form of advertising I have ever used and I've used both magazines and actual exhibitions to get my product out there.

My boats site again gets a lot of interest but as it's purely for my own interest re boats I don't have any money making banners or linc's on it, apart from site's I really like . It again does come very high up on search engines lists but not for any other reason other than a high quantity of people looking on there and the time the site has been up .
Actually if people who have their own boats on a web site want to linc from my site, I don't have a problem with that , subject to approval !!.

One other thing worth mentioning , I use dream weaver to do any thing re web sites oh and terrapin ftp to upload it . Nothing else compares with these tools for web stuff cos if I can do it any one can. Mind you I try to keep the site as simple as possible , it can take forever for some sites to load and I hate waiting all that time just for a poxy logo .

Cheers

Re: web sites

Congrats on generating business from your websites. You hit the nail on the head when you said that you come up high on the search engines when someone is looking for what you offer. Customers at this stage are termed as 'ready to buy' and are proactively looking for what you offer.

Granted that web is a cheap form of advertising, however your activity on other levels (adverts, exhibitions etc) should not be valued on a single level, but all you marketing activity evaluated as a whole. For example, an exhibition would raise awareness and a website delivers additional information prior to purchase. I could go on and on as this is what I do for a living (no points for guessing).

Like you, I dabble on my own website (my boat) and use dreamweaver and cute ftp - easy to use. That said I had a go at flash, but still haven't worked it out!

Cheers

Re: web sites

I know what you mean re flash , my son has spent many happy hours making caretoons and graphics , he's very quick to learn .
I wont do things like posh graphics or fancy stuff because it takes far to long to load. I keep it simple and use large text , because it helps those who are more likely to want a carburetter for a classic or vintage car to read.
I dislike sitting there waiting for a page to load only to find it's a logo !!! as one of my pet hates I can see it from another persons point of view.
cheers
mick

smile you'l be on your boat soon ;-)
