Hi Peeps
Just wondering if I should be putting the below in E-bay, a museum or a skip! Manufactured 1979, Beaufort four man life raft. Next inspection due 1998! Wodjereckon?

We gave an 15 yr old Arimar to the local school's CCF RN section on condition that it was never taken to sea.

They tested it on a lawn - it worked perfectly ! They now use it in the summer term on their open air swimming pool for training and MOB practice .

I'd hesitate to eBay one that old just in case......

I'd stick it on e-bay it may be perfectly useable..especially for training etc. I am a sea survival instructor and whilst I don't need one of these right now I spent a long time looking for just such a raft when I started...if nothing else the contents of the safety pack are a great teaching aid for sea survival....Just make it clear that its out of date, but I'm sure someone wil give something for it...cheers Iain

Our first boat came with a life raft. It was an RFD. The two halves of the cannister were loose (no tape round them) and I took it home but didn't really know what to do with it. In the end, curiosity got the better of me and I gingerly lifted the lid. The liferaft was inside - in a bin bag!

Needless to say, it didn't inflate. I phone RFD and explained. They asked me for the serial number, (which I think was "6", or something) and when I told them, there was a pause at the other end of the line followed by an explanation that they had been hoping for some more numbers - it was one of the first one's they'd made! They told me there would be no point in doing anything with it as the reinforecements for the fabric were cotton and would almost certainly disintegrate so that it would just turn itself into a beach ball when inflated!

Dont throw it away, someone can find a use for it.Me for example.I can use it for sea safety presentations. But I am sure some will probably buy it from you, provided it is still sealed up.

A few years ago I sold (for a widow . . . honest) an out of date - about 6 years - 14 man for US$500.00.

Buyer was to get it tested at his cost.

If it failed I would refund the US$500.00.

It passed.

She got the US$500.00
