Anchors - a new kid on the block & guess what . . .

Funny how anchors are now getting a bit like cars.... they all look the same.:D

I've just noticed, though it may just be me being slow, but all the modern Rocna / manson / this one all recommend larger weight / boat length than the older CQR / Detla / Bruce types. Is that one reason why they have a better reputation other than the fact that the designs do appear to work better?

I note from the blurb "designed to penetrate dense grassy bottoms and set with unparalleled holding power." It'll be handy on all those eel grass beds then :D
 
Well, they have mentioned the words "boat anchor" AND even highlighted it in bold, that's a surefire way of getting on the first results page on Google - they are bound to sell!

Also, has anyone noticed the assembly instructions? The gist of them being Lubricate-Assemble-Lubricate-Assemble. Deep stuff!

I'd noticed that as well. For the last 5 years my 20Kg Delta has held me with few problems, but if I look at Rocna or others they all want me to go up to 25 or 30Kg and thats a bloody big old heavy anchor to stow! Let alone altering the bow roller set up to get one on board.

Now just prove that weight isn't everything (but design is!) I'm currently sitting in 25kts, gusting 40kts of wind on an 9.5Kg Fortress! The Delta is just too heavy and is ploughing up the sandy bottom.
