Anchoring with chain = 3 times length of boat.

Did anyone here on ch77 yesterday afternoon in the Solent, the conversation between two powerboats that were trying to anchor.

They were not sure on how much chain to put out, and came to the conclusion it must be three times the length of the boat if they anchoring using chain.

Well you could imagine the turning circle if the boat was 45 foot and they were in 3 metres of water !!

It made me chuckle at the time.

Some people just shouldn't be allowed out on their own. I blame the govt for their care in the community policy

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr my boats 5 mtrs long, lets throw out 15 mtrs of chain, but depth sounder says I'm in 25 mtrs of water, anyone know the mobile phone number for the lifeboat?

Just like Woofy's have to be licenced because many have dangerous owners /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
