I enjoyed all the tips and experiences in the recent CQR thread. I use a Bruce on my 7 ton sloop. It usually lies on its side with only one fluke dug in and occasionally drags. I try to lower x5 depth of chain.
My tip for reducing drag and yaw when windy is to lower surplus chain onto the sea bed. When dug in (checked by snorkelling) I tie 10m nylon rope with rubber snubbers to chain and then to foredeck cleat.I then lower what chain is left in the locker to the sea bed. Thus from the anchor I have x5 depth chain along the sea bed held down at the proximal (boat)end by a pile of chain. This reduces yawing as the pile has to be dragged across the bottom.
BYe the bye last season I bought a Turkish copy of the very popular Bugel anchor and it dragged twice in first week!
