Anchoring in South Deep, Poole Harbour

Current Admiralty chart shows cables between Goathorn and Furzey Island, as does Imray folio, with associated no-anchoring symbols.
Current (2020) Reeds chartlet shows you-may-anchor symbol in the same area, with no indication of cables.
There are times when South Deep is chock full of anchored boats in this area, I have not noticed cable/yacht tangles nor have I seen any outsize sparks.
I seem to recall reading, many years ago, that new cables had been installed in a deep trench so that they would avoid snagging anchors etc. But I can't remember details.
I assume any cables would be carrying mains power, probably at high voltage.
Does anyone know what the true state of affairs is?

I have definitely anchored there with no problems, good holding.

I have always found that area too crowded to anchor safely. However, I have had many good nights at anchor at the entrance to South Deep, South of Brownsea Island, in about 2m plus tide.

We anchor there often.

Perhaps we get there earlier than deeper draughed boats but have rarely found it too busy.

We only draw 1.1 metres.

We usually find space on the west side of the channel clear of the cables. But many yachts anchor over them as you say with no obvious problems.

On my old CM93 chart the information balloon for S Deep says:

Caution area (CTNARE)
50 40.5359 N 001 59.3494 W
INFORM

Buoyed channel
SOUTH DEEP AND WYCH CHANNEL
Between 50deg40.70'N; 1deg59.15'W and 50deg40.85'N; 1deg59.95'W, South Deep and 50deg41.62'N; 1deg59.35'W and 50deg41.42'N; 1deg59.45'W, Wych Channel, the deepest water is marked by buoys. Mooring is prohibited within these marked channels.

so as you would normally expect, anchoring outside the channel marks is ok.
